My name is Lorelei Darling, I am 15 years old, and I am the founder of Teens4Teens! From a very young age, I really wanted my parents to foster. Being the only girl in the house, with two brothers, I was dying for a sister! I begged my parents to foster a kid, but of course, it just couldn't happen. After many times of my parents rejecting the idea to foster, I decided to take action. I made up my mind that if I couldn't bring one of these kids into my family, I might as well do as much as possible to give foster kids the support they are lacking. In December of 2012, when I was 8 years old, I held my very first toy drive for Penny Lane Centers, and it took off from there!
Over the years of doing more work with Penny Lane, I began to realize just how little is given to the teenagers in the foster system. Just because a kid turns 13, shouldn’t make it any harder for them to find a stable home. Teenagers are smart and driven, and well aware of what they’re going through, so why do we get such a bad reputation? With all of this swirling through my mind, I started Teens4Teens. The goal for Teens4Teens is to not only get teenagers involved in giving back to their community and supporting their peers, but to also shut down the falsely placed stereotype that many teenagers have been given.
